Utilizing the proper semantic elements in HTML, external CSS file, or having the correct conditional in JS means it gives future developers who review the code an understanding of what is being written and allows for scaling without additional interpretation.

An example of that benefit is one of accessibility. Visually impaired users can get a great idea of what is on the page and the material most important due to heading elements.

Inline: this is not recommended but the code is written inside a specific HTML element at a specific location on an HTML document. The reason it is not recommended is it makes it very difficult for developers to maintain as the project scale increases.

The immediate problem that comes to mind would be converting between metric & imperial units or vice versa. For instance in my vehicle is an analog speedometer that has miles per hour on the outer ring and on the inner ring is kilometers per hour. To have a digital readout showing miles per hour with the option to switch to kilometers per hour could be use of the function.
